“Publishers Spoke. ‘We’ Listened.” Hmmmmmmmmm. I’ve heard that Somewhere Before.

Affiliate Have Spoken. Pepperjam Listened.

OK. Let me start by saying that I’m a fan of Performics. I’ve enjoyed working with Performics over the years and I’ve had the honor of speaking at numerous conferences with Chris Henger (Performics’ VP of Affiliate Marketing) who I consider an industry leader and friend.

Let me also say that I think that Performics has been more aggressive acquiring new advertisers over the last 6-12 months than any other major affiliate network. In fact, I think for the most part they’ve stayed low on the radar screen and have been watching merchant after merchant hop from Linkshare to Commission Junction and from Commission Junction to Linkshare and visa versa. At the same time, Performics has methodically and carefully grown the loyalty of their advertiser base.

Kudos to Performics for being smart and offering a full-service model that is quite impressive, while not getting involved in the CJ / Linkshare game of advertiser hopscotch.

The point of this post, however, isn’t so much to celebrate Performics…it’s to call out the Chief Blogger over at the Performics Blog - Larry Adams - for attempting to generate some buzz by using one of the slogans from the recent launch of Pepperjam Network.

As many of the readers of this blog know, Pepperjam recently launched Pepperjam Network.

Based on all accounts, including hundreds of reviews and unprecedented industry support, the launch of Pepperjam Network has shaken up the affiliate marketing industry.

Since launching Pepperjam Network one thing has become clear.

The major networks have taken notice.

Stay tuned.

In this case, I was notified by a Pepperjam Network affiliate and later by members of the Pepperjam Team that Performics put out a blog post with the title, “Publishers Spoke. We Listened.” The post was picked up by a couple of industry blogs, including Revenews.com. My guess is that the publishers they are referring to are Performics Publishers and the “We” refers to Performics. BTW - the blog post was about how Performics is starting to open up publisher contact info to advertisers, along with some other advances to the Performics UI.

Great. I’m super happy for Performics taking some initiative to open up lines of communication for affiliates and affiliate managers. Really, I’m pumped. This is long overdue and is not something that is done by Linkshare or Commission Junction.

Affiliates Have Spoken. Pepperjam Listened.

My bone with Performics is the “Publishers Spoke. We Listened” slogan. This is confusingly similar to one of Pepperjam Network’s primary advertising campaigns: “Affiliates Have Spoken. Pepperjam Listened.”

We’ve generated hundreds of thousands of impressions as part of a banner campaign we’ve been running since January with that specific campaign.

Several of us were wearing t-shirts at Affiliate Summit last week with that very slogan.

Sounds petty - right?

Not really.

But I will admit, I am trying to have a bit of fun here since Performics opened the door. I mean Pepperjam is a little ole company here in Pennsylvania and Performics is a multi-hundred million dollar company in the process of being acquired by Google.

When I called out Performics for selecting the blog post title I got a tongue and cheek response from Larry Adams:

“I was at the Summit, although I can’t say that I remember any of your t-shirts; Vegas can be a distracting place. I’m not saying I never saw it but let’s just say that neither of us are going to get a trademark on the “[You] spoke, [we] listened” motto”

Here is a summary of the dialogue between Larry Adams from Performics and myself at the Revenews Blog and the Performics Blog.

In short, Larry sort of, kind of admits that he was simply making a play on our slogan. We both say nice things about each other and then he takes a stab at me on his blog that I took the liberty to respond back with a stab. No question - I won that pissing match and I think we both have had a bit of fun in the process.

It’s be fun watching these huge companies take notice of Pepperjam Network.

New Year’s Resolutions - Take Some Tips from Tony Robbins

Friday, January 4th, 2008

Since our Meet the Pepperjam Team video won’t go up until this weekend or Monday (since Dean - our videoblogger - is out sick), I thought I’d share with you a clip from one of our clients (and my personal mentors) Anthony Robbins.

For those of you that have committed to a New Year’s Resolution this video and Tony’s products - www.tonyrobbins.com - may be of use to you in keeping with your goals. If you are an affiliate and would like to promote Tony’s stuff join our program located on www.cj.com.

Tony Robbins is a life coach. A life coach is someone who provides guidance on how to improve the quality of your life. Tony is not a “think positive” and your life will immediately get better kind of guy. Instead, Tony provides strategies and shares insight into how you can effectively take control of your life and achieve your goals.

I first started following Tony Robbins when I was 14 years old (I’m now 32). One of my close childhood friends, Brian Drew, and I started listening to Personal Power I (one of Tony’s early products) after Brian’s dad (Dr. Drew…another early mentor of mine) suggested it would be a great idea. At the time we weren’t interested in changing our life much - we both wanted to increase the amount of weight we could bench press and I think we both wanted to improve our appearance, but it was Tony’s energy that really captivated me and got me interested. Since that time I’ve incorporated many of Tony’s tips into my life and I’ve accomplished a lot and had a heck of a time in the process. I’ve had the opportunity to see Tony LIVE in-person several times, including doing two fire walks (once with the entire Pepperjam Exec team!!!!!!) and still can’t believe that Tony has become one of Pepperjam’s most cherished clients (for over 1 year now). If you see me at a conference and want to talk more about my (and your) experiences with Tony Robbins please don’t hesitate to stop get my attention - you’ll immediately know we have something in common other than online marketing!

I can go on and on about Tony Robbins, but the point of this post is to provide you with a relatively brief video from Tony that he did during a TED conference a few years back. If you like what you see / hear I challenge you to visit Tony’s Web site and buy some of his products. Make sure you join his affiliate program first and we’ll give you a percentage of your sale back as a commission!!! And if you haven’t attended a Tony show it will change your life forever.

Happy New Year!

Meet The Pepperjam Team #48 - Kris Jones - Reflections On The Past Year At Pepperjam

Friday, December 28th, 2007

Meet The Pepperjam Team Logo

Welcome to this weeks edition of Meet The Pepperjam Team.

Well, another year has past, and often times it creates a period of reflection for us all. At the end of every year we look at what has happened and what will happen in the coming year . It has been a great year for Pepperjam and we have alot to be thankful for and ALOT to reflect on. With that said I figured I would ask Kris Jones if he had anything to say about the past year, what it meant to him and where Pepperjam is heading.

Watch and Enjoy!

For those of you who don’t know the “rules” behind the Meet the Pepperjam Video Series, here they are:

Every Friday Pepperjam will post a new video interview of a member of our staff - everyone will be included - affiliates managers, executives, search-engine marketing managers, directors, software engineers, assistants, online media buyers, and interns. The person being interviewed won’t know he / she has been chosen until about 30 seconds before the interview - this way you’ll get an unrehearsed, real world look at the employee…hopefully, this will make it interesting and non-corporate, which is what we are known and respected for across the internet marketing industry.

Why are we doing this? Well, I am proud of our team and I think you’ll find them as interesting and intelligent as I do. Also, I’m a student of viral video and the social media space and I want to test the waters as it relates to what corporate america is doing (and not doing) to spread buzz and build next generation work places.

Finally, I just thought it would be cool to put some people in front of a video camera that have never done so before, have a little bit of fun, and see if Pepperjam can spread some additional buzz about why we are the leader in online marketing.

FYI - all videos will also be posted to YouTube. If you think what we are doing is outside-the-box and interesting please blog about it and share the story with the world.

Hello Everyone,

Welcome to MTPT #45. This week we have a n00b, Tim Stanitis, Tim has been here around 2 months and in the 2 months that I have gotten to know him he is a great guy. Well traveled, a hard worker and a real cowboy (smokes them marlboro reds). Tim is a homegrown local boy, went to Wyoming Seminary and attended Kings College. I think he knows everyone here from some previous experience.

Meet The Pepperjam Team Logo

Hello Everyone,

Welcome to MTPT #44. Forty Four videos already and we aren’t even half way through our employees (I doubt we will ever get half way through at the rate we are growing). Anyway, This week we have Lauren Barge, Lauren has been with us for around 6 months now and is part of our sales and management team. Lauren enjoys sports, and outdoor and extreme sports, watch as Lauren tells us about herself and her life here at Pepperjam.

Meet Lauren:

Jaime Luchuck Wins Reality Show and is Named “Next Internet Millionaire”

Saturday, November 24th, 2007

The final episode of Next Internet Millionaire (NIM) debuted this week and Jaime Luchuck won the first ever “Next Internet Millionaire” title by generating nearly $100,000 in book sales in less than one (1) week. Jaime beat runner-up and YouTube celebrity Charles Trippy whose Viral Video Fever video sold less than $50,000 in its first week.

I blogged about Jaime and Charles products HERE.

As the NIM winner Jaime takes home $25,000 in cash and becomes a joint venture (JV) partner of proven internet millionaire Joel Comm. It is likely that Jaime will make her first million within the next 12-months or sooner, while Trippy left the show with a check for $10,000, which was a share of his initial product sales.

Early next week I will be blogging more in detail about Joel Comm’s newest product - Secret Classroom, which I am involved.

In short, the product is a 12-disc educational DVD collection that was created during the taping of NIM. It will provide you with behind the scenes access to each and every session led by one of the NIM teachers!

The NIM teachers included Mark Joyner, Armand Morin, Jeff Walker, Marlon Sanders, Brad Fallon, Michael Koenigs, Kristopher Jones (that’s me), Dave Taylor, Perry Marshall, Mike Filsaime, Rich Schefren, and Ray Edwards.

Well - 12 shows = 12 DVD’s with about 2-hours of exclusive footage from each teacher. If you purchase the product you’ll be able to see my entire presentation that I gave during Episode 7 of the NIM! FYI - the launch will take place on December 5th - Stay tuned for more!

Here’s the last and final episode of this season - Episode 13 (note I’ve included a copy of Episode 7 below - that’s the show I was a guest):

The Next Internet Millionaire Episode Seven Featuring Kris Jones, President & CEO of Pepperjam

Thursday, October 4th, 2007

The waiting is finally over - Episode 7 of the hit internet reality show The Next Internet Millionaire is finally LIVE - I serve as the special guest, which includes me giving the contestants some insight on how to build a successful company, while having a ton of fun in the process.

(UPDATE: SCROLL BELOW FOR CONTESTANT PICS)

The show starts out with Laura Martin facing elimination in the judgment room. After that the contestants went on a hike in the Colorado Rockies and came back to the Next Internet Millionaire complex where I was.

Joel Comm, the host of the show, only told the contestants that a close industry friend of his would be present and that the remainder of day would be spent doing something different and fun.

The theme of the day was how to skillfully build a successful business, while making sure that you (and your employees) have a lot of fun in the process!

I was honored that Joel chose me to address this topic and was equally humbled that he shared with the contestants the fact that Pepperjam is one of the coolest places to work in the entire online marketing industry. With that intro Joel and I had the contestants participate in a series of challenges called “Pepperjam Games.” The idea was to expose the contestants to some of the fun things that members of the Pepperjam Team get to experience on a daily basis working at Pepperjam. Challenges included things like Ping Pong and Nintendo Wii. I also host a Trivia Show toward the end of the Episode where the contestants square off against one another and answer questions about Pepperjam.

The show was an absolute blast and I can’t thank Joel enough. In addition, it was an honor meeting each of the remaining contestants and getting to spend some time with them throughout the day and later in the evening over dinner and drinks. Also - I have to mention that I was extremely impressed with Joel’s entire production team led by Eric Holmlund. The complex where the show was taped was state-of-the-art and on the level of a Hollywood production - the entire team was professional and the level of energy and creativity would make anyone proud to be associated with such an amazing experience.

I consider this show a tribute to the hard work and dedication of the entire Pepperjam Team. The reason why Pepperjam is one of the most talked about companies in online marketing is because we have the most amazing group of people who are super talented and show up to work every day with a level of enthusiasm and commitment that is inspiring.

Here’s the show - Enjoy!

Pepperjam’s CEO, Kris Jones, Reveals Affiliate Marketing Money Making Secrets During Interview with Search Marketing Standard

Tuesday, September 25th, 2007

Yeah - I know - the title of this post reads like I’m trying to pump a get rich quick e-book or something.

However, I’m not.

That’s not my style.

I’m just really impressed with the article / interview captured by Joe Whyte about Pepperjam and some of my affiliate marketing philisopies during SES - San Jose.

Search Marketing Standard

In fact, when Joe, who writes for Search Marketing Standard, asked me for an interview I actually looked at it as an opportunity to give him some surefire affiliate marketing search arbitrage tricks that he could use to help seed his business - Hybrid SEM. Hybrid SEM is an online marketing business that Joe recently founded with partial inspiration from what I’ve been able to build with Pepperjam (thanks for the props Joe - but always remember - it’s the sum of the parts that makes the ultimate success story.)

Honestly, I think that Joe is an awesome guy and based on my exposure to him over the last few years - Hybrid SEM is going to become a major player in the SEM and SMO spaces within no time.

Anyway - Joe posted the interview he did with me at the Search Marketing Standard website - located HERE.

If you are an affiliate marketer I highly suggest you read the interview since I mention at least one or two things that I haven’t talked about before that should be able to make you a lot of money if you are able to execute.

Remember.

(1) Find something that works. (2) Replicate it. (3) Scale it.

That’s my philosophy as it relates to affiliate marketing search arbitrage and I’ve used it to build one of the fastest growing and most successful internet marketing agencies of all time - Pepperjam, an industry leading full-service internet marketing agency.

READ THE INTERVIEW HERE.
