This coming Friday we have one of our most high profile visits ever.

Rand Fishkin (SEOMOZ)
Danny Sullivan (SearchEngineLand.com / SMX)
Jim Boykin (WeBuildPages.com)
David Naylor (Bronco)
Greg Boser (Web Guerrilla)

Come back on Friday for some pics and / or videos from our visitor.

Meet the Pepperjam Team Video #40 – Ian Howells – Director Of SEO

Friday, October 26th, 2007

Meet The Pepperjam Team Logo

OK, Well this turned out to be the craziest and most unexpected Meet The Pepperjam Team that I have ever been a part of. Ian Howells is our Director Of SEO, Apparently (and coincidentally) he has been in a prank war with Christian Wenzel who I have previously interviewed. Well, this week is a two part video, the first video explains how Ian got into the position he is in, in the second video.

Ian was a good sport about the whole situation and it is a pleasure to to have him on staff here. Ian started here as an Intern and worked his way up to the Director Of SEO, He quickly became the house expert on the subject and has helped many, many sites improve there ranking from hundreds of pages back up to the first results page.

Meet Ian Howells :)

Part 1

Part 2

For those of you who don’t know the “rules” behind the Meet the Pepperjam Video Series, here they are:

Every Friday Pepperjam will post a new video interview of a member of our staff – everyone will be included – affiliates managers, executives, search-engine marketing managers, directors, software engineers, assistants, online media buyers, and interns. The person being interviewed won’t know he / she has been chosen until about 30 seconds before the interview – this way you’ll get an unrehearsed, real world look at the employee…hopefully, this will make it interesting and non-corporate, which is what we are known and respected for across the internet marketing industry.

Why are we doing this? Well, I am proud of our team and I think you’ll find them as interesting and intelligent as I do. Also, I’m a student of viral video and the social media space and I want to test the waters as it relates to what corporate america is doing (and not doing) to spread buzz and build next generation work places.

Finally, I just thought it would be cool to put some people in front of a video camera that have never done so before, have a little bit of fun, and see if Pepperjam can spread some additional buzz about why we are the leader in online marketing.

FYI – all videos will also be posted to YouTube. If you think what we are doing is outside-the-box and interesting please blog about it and share the story with the world.

Speaking at a4uexpo in London, England

Wednesday, October 24th, 2007

I arrived in London this afternoon to speak at the a4uexpo affiliate marketing conference after I spent a week or so on a quasi-business trip throughout Europe (Barcelona, Spain / Munich, Germany / Paris, France).

I’m really excited about this event since this is my first time speaking in Europe. Also, Matthew Wood, the coordinator of what is being billed as the largest meeting ever of affiliate marketers in the UK, has done a great job getting participation from some very well known speakers and businesses.

I’ll be speaking twice tomorrow, once where I’m the only speaker talking about affiliate marketing search arbitrage and once where I’ll be part of a panel entitled, “Meet the Super Affiliates.”

If you see me at the event make sure to come up and say hello.

Also attending the a4uexpo with me will be Aaron Baker – Pepperjam’s VP of Sales & Marketing and Robyn Jones – Pepperjam’s Director of Affiliate Marketing.

Meet the Pepperjam Team Video #38 – Jill O’Brien – Senior Search Manager

Friday, October 12th, 2007

Meet The Pepperjam Team Logo

Welcome to Meet The Pepperjam Team. This week we have Jill O’Brien. Jill has been with us for about 2 months now and has become a staple member of the search team. In this short period of time Jill has positioned herself as one of the most talented members of our staff.

Jill is Ok at making funny faces, but I think she copped out in this video, and she even admits it.

Meet the Pepperjam Team Video #37 – Christian Wenzel – Director Of Search Services

Friday, October 5th, 2007

Meet The Pepperjam Team Logo

Welcome back Ladies and Gentlmen. This week we have Christian Wenzel, he blogs on our blog once in a while (the guy without a picture) but mostly he is known around the office as Director of Search Services. Christian has been here at Pepperjam for about 9 months now and has done such a bang up job in the search division that he was promoted rather quickly. Christian makes sure when the rest of the search team needs keyword lists or ads he has them all prepared.

If you like the outdoors Christian is your guy, he loves camping, hiking and building fires. If you don’t find him fighting bears in the vast wilderness you can find him on his couch playing with his Wii… He loves Mario Party.

The Next Internet Millionaire Episode Seven Featuring Kris Jones, President & CEO of Pepperjam

Thursday, October 4th, 2007

The waiting is finally over – Episode 7 of the hit internet reality show The Next Internet Millionaire is finally LIVE – I serve as the special guest, which includes me giving the contestants some insight on how to build a successful company, while having a ton of fun in the process.

(UPDATE: SCROLL BELOW FOR CONTESTANT PICS)

The show starts out with Laura Martin facing elimination in the judgment room. After that the contestants went on a hike in the Colorado Rockies and came back to the Next Internet Millionaire complex where I was.

Joel Comm, the host of the show, only told the contestants that a close industry friend of his would be present and that the remainder of day would be spent doing something different and fun.

The theme of the day was how to skillfully build a successful business, while making sure that you (and your employees) have a lot of fun in the process!

I was honored that Joel chose me to address this topic and was equally humbled that he shared with the contestants the fact that Pepperjam is one of the coolest places to work in the entire online marketing industry. With that intro Joel and I had the contestants participate in a series of challenges called “Pepperjam Games.” The idea was to expose the contestants to some of the fun things that members of the Pepperjam Team get to experience on a daily basis working at Pepperjam. Challenges included things like Ping Pong and Nintendo Wii. I also host a Trivia Show toward the end of the Episode where the contestants square off against one another and answer questions about Pepperjam.

The show was an absolute blast and I can’t thank Joel enough. In addition, it was an honor meeting each of the remaining contestants and getting to spend some time with them throughout the day and later in the evening over dinner and drinks. Also – I have to mention that I was extremely impressed with Joel’s entire production team led by Eric Holmlund. The complex where the show was taped was state-of-the-art and on the level of a Hollywood production – the entire team was professional and the level of energy and creativity would make anyone proud to be associated with such an amazing experience.

I consider this show a tribute to the hard work and dedication of the entire Pepperjam Team. The reason why Pepperjam is one of the most talked about companies in online marketing is because we have the most amazing group of people who are super talented and show up to work every day with a level of enthusiasm and commitment that is inspiring.

Here’s the show – Enjoy!

Microsoft (MSFT) Acquires Affiliate Marketing Cash-Back Comparison Engine JellyFish.com

Tuesday, October 2nd, 2007

JellyFish

Microsoft (MSFT) announced this morning that they purchased affiliate marketing comparison engine JellyFish.com. JellyFish gives its customers a cut of advertising revenue from retailers, offering a rebate on purchases made through the site. In this way, JellyFish acts very similar to other popular “cash-back” affiliate websites like eBates, FatWallet, and Cashbaq.

What’s cool to note about JellyFish.com is that the company launched around the same time (June 2006) as Shogging.com - Pepperjam’s social shopping engine. Pete Cashmore from Mashable.com did a nice write-up about Jellyfish and Shogging HERE.

I couldn’t find any details about what Microsoft paid for JellyFish, but JellyFish did take on a $5 million round of VC financing a few months ago so it’s safe to say the price tag was north of that number – My guess is the price tag was probably in the $15-20 million range – it could be more or less, but that’s just a guess. I’ll also mention that I’ll bet that JellyFish wasn’t purchased because of revenues, but because of their impressive use of Web 2.0 technology.

Congrats to our friends from JellyFish!
