Pepperjam Senior Management and Execs Attending Search-Engine Strategies (SES) - San Jose

First, thank you to everyone who has e-mailed and called Robyn and I to congrat us on our recent marriage!

Our honeymoon is now winding down…we arrived in San Jose early this afternoon to attend SES - San Jose.

Robyn and I are here with the following Pepperjammers:

I speak on Wednesday on a panel entitled, “The SEO Reputation Problem.” By the way, I’ll be arguing that the so called reputation problem with SEO is overblown and misunderstood.

The reality is that SEO is an integral component of a successful, integrated online marketing strategy.

Ignoring SEO or leaving it to the search-engines to solely determine your organic search ranking is equivalent to opening up a pay-per-click account, selecting the top position for every keyword, and assuming that Google is going to only serve keywords that convert for you.

The reality, which I will argue, is that SEO presents an effective opportunity for businesses to analyze competition and build successful online businesses. All of the most successful organically ranked e-commerce websites enjoy their ranking because they pay attention and take action to ensure that their websites are delivering exactly what the search engines want.

What “search-engines” want is the basis for building a successful search-engine optimization strategy. Moreover, search-engine optimization is a process that includes many variables all of which can’t be taken for granted.

The “reputation problem” stems from an exaggeration that all or most of SEO’s are blackhat - that is just foolish and I look forward to arguing to the contrary.
